Max Loss vs Trailing Drawdown

These two ideas are often confused. This page separates hard max loss from trailing drawdown and explains why the difference matters when choosing a challenge.

Max loss is the overall account-level drawdown threshold. Trailing drawdown is a moving loss threshold that can follow equity or balance depending on the firm model. Traders should never treat these as interchangeable because they create very different behavioural pressure.

A clear prop firm should explain the loss framework plainly before purchase. If the rules are scattered or vague, that alone is a warning sign.
